Archives and Special Collections, in support of enhancing the learning environment at Drake University, welcomes instructors and students to learn more about our archival collections and how  these primary sources can be incorporated into course development and research.

Instructional Support

Our classes range from a general introduction to archival research, to a move customized instruction based on specific needs.

We offer the following services:

An Introduction to Archival Research

A class that provides students with general introduction to the archives and a sample of a few of its collections, and assist them with using primary sources in their personal and academic research. The class includes discusses what to expect when visiting the archives; the responsibilities of archivists; and provides instruction in how to search archival finding aids.

Individual/Independent Research Assistance

Introduces students to archival materials unique to the Archives and Special Collections that are relevant to their research topic.

Course Development Assistance

Assists instructors with using primary documents from the University’s archives to develop their courses.
