Archives Visitor Information

Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

 

For research appointments during other times, please make special arrangements with the Archives Staff (archives@drake.edu).

 

Drake University Archives & Special Collections does occasionally close for holidays or special events.  Please contact Archives Staff to confirm hours when planning your visit.

 

What You Need To Know About Visiting The Archives

Upon arrival, you will be asked to register (no ID required), as well as read and agree to the Researcher Regulations.
After you request materials (via a Call Slip), you will be given only 1 folder at a time to research.

 

What To Bring With You

Laptops, digital cameras, pencils, and cell phones (set to silent) may be used in the research area.
Pens or markers of any kind, food, beverages, tripods, and personal scanners are prohibited.

We are located on the second floor of Cowles Library at Drake University. The main entrance to the Library is on the North side of the building.

Parking

Des Moines city parking is allowed on University Avenue, north side 6 am – 4 pm, south side 9 am – 6 pm.
Cowles Library has two sparking spots in Lot 24 (south side of University at 28th Street) designated for the use of visitors to the Library.  They are designated as “Visiting Scholar” spaces.
Campus visitor parking is also available in Drake’s Olmsted lot, one block west of Cowles Library, entrance gate on University Avenue.
