Archives Visitor Information

Hours

Appointments only, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Please make arrangements with the Archives Staff in advance by emailing archives@drake.edu.

Drake University Archives & Special Collections does occasionally close for holidays or special events.  Please contact Archives Staff to confirm hours when planning your visit.

What You Need To Know About Visiting The Archives

Upon arrival, you will be asked to register (no ID required), as well as read and agree to the Researcher Regulations.

After you request materials (via a Call Slip), you will be given only 1 box at a time to research.

What To Bring With You

Laptops, digital cameras, pencils, and cell phones (set to silent) may be used in the research area.

Pens or markers of any kind, food, beverages, tripods, and personal scanners are prohibited.

Location

We are located on the second floor of Cowles Library at Drake University. The main entrance to the Library is on the North side of the building.

Parking

Des Moines city parking is allowed on University Avenue and surrounding neighborhood streets. Please take note of any time limits and city regulations that are posted.

Drake University requires a parking permit to park in Drake parking lots. Visitors can purchase a commuter lot pass and should park in one of the two VISITOR LOTS on campus. Permits should be printed and placed on the dashboard of your car.
Visitor lots will be indicated by Gray signs, and will also have parking meters in case you do not have a printed permit.
